Of the many features that make the Falcon 7x such
an exceptional private jet charter Dubai option, with that big cabin and ultra-long-range
is the fly-by-wire technology that connects the pilot to the flight
controls, which is a first for business jets. Dassault insists on calling this the
digital flight control system (DFCS) because all of the computers are digital
rather than analogue, but to a pilot the point is that there are no mechanical
links between the cockpit controls and the surfaces that actually fly the airplane

Dassault have been building very capable military
fighters using DFCS for over 30 years, and that experience really shows in the flying
characteristics of the 7X private jet charter.
A fighter jet has to be manoeuvrable, but less obvious in a fighter is
the need for smooth and steady flight with minimum of demands on a pilot. While
jinking around during a dog-fight is a necessary capability, the routine
mission of a fighter is to deliver weapons on to ground targets or to shoot
over the horizon at other aircraft. In both cases, a stable and steady jet pass
is the main guarantee of success.
When it comes to the business or private jet
mission a smooth flight with the precision to make a safe touchdown in the
worst weather is what everybody needs, especially the passengers. So in the 7X jet
the IT at the heart of the DFCS keep the airplane on a regular path until
the human pilots or the autopilot trequests a change. The IT automatically
corrects for gusts or turbulence that move the jet from its planned flight
path, which keeps the aircraft flying to where you want it to go, but also has
the unplanned effect of smoothing out the ride. Because the DFCS system quickly
makes very small control movements when the aircraft hits turbulence, the thumps,
wallows and rolls that plague other aircraft experiences are minimized. The
long and extremely flexible wings also help damp out the jolts of turbulence
that are transmitted to the cabin.

But back to what it's like to fly the Falcon 7X.
The best way I can describe it is that you simply point and fly. Put the jet on the flight path to Dubai and
it will stay there until you make a new input.
E.g. on rotation for take-off you are going to be holding
the same stick force against the springs when the flight path reaches the correct
track as you were when you started to bring the nose up. In any other jet, if
you release the back pressure the nose will drop looking for its trim speed, so
you have to hold the stick back until you can trim off the pressure. In the 7X,
however, the jet is constantly trimming automatically to maintain a constant
flight path.
The Falcon 7X allows the pilot to think about the flight
in a new way. Instead of concentrating on how to make the airplane fly, you can
focus on where you want it to go. You simply see the flight path on the PFD, then
you see the flight path command, and you simply adjust the path to where you
want it. The pilot workload has been cut to a fraction of what it normally takes
to fly a regular jet.
The 7X is the first Falcon update since the
three-engine Model 50 was developed in the 1970s. The large cabin 900 series
and the twin-engined 2000 family are all derived from the excellent work done
on the Model 50. Dassault pioneered the use of CAD, and although the company
has used computers in the design of all of the jets since the Falcon 50, the 7X
is the first that can boast a truly a virtual design. Engineers used computers at
every step of the creation to optimize performance of the finished aircraft, as
well as minimize weight, streamline the manufacturing process, and to reduce
maintenance requirements and complexity. And as is to give final proof that
aviation is now a fully global enterprise, all the original documentation of
the 7X was done in English, which is very a big step for the French.
A Whole New Way To Manufacture a Private Jet Charter Aircraft
Dassault used "product life management"
teams which were linked by computers with 400 people working on the project
spread across 7 countries. The main airframe components are built by half a
dozen companies and are then brought together for the final assembly at the
Dassault factory located in Bordeaux. The unfinished airframes are flown to
Little Rock where the paint and interior work is all done.
What has not changed in the design of the 7X are
the basic assumptions about long range airplanes, foremost being that they
should have three engines. The 7X private jet is certainly the most
technologically advanced business jet yet, but the company sticks to the basics
when it comes to the number of engines it thinks you should have when heading
out over a wide ocean to places like Dubai. While the most of the aviation industry
has moved to a allowing large twin engine airline jets to fly four hours away
from a suitable alternate, Dassault and Falcon owners just feel more
comfortable with an extra engine. Also, the 7X is realtively light and low in
drag that even with the 3 engines it has the best fuel use in this
ultra-long-range private jet class.
