Brighton osteopaths get busy during the holiday period

Sussex osteopaths, Brighton osteopaths

We all love to spend time on holiday with family and friends, of course, especially during the summer months when the weather is always that bit kinder. Ask any man, woman or child about their favourite destinations, and the chances are you will receive a wide variety of replies. Some will prefer the ski slopes of Whistler in Canada, for example, while others might choose the sandy beaches of Spain’s Costa Brava. There will also be plenty who nominate the iconic seaside resorts of southern England as well.

This particular region has been a favourite with travellers from across the UK and beyond for many decades, and in the height of the summer season it can be extremely crowded with happy holiday-makers throughout the day and into the evening. If you are yet to spend any quality time in the area, you need to right this wrong and see for yourself why so many other people love the place. This is a part of the world that really deserves to be on the radar of anyone who wants to sample life on the wonderful English coast.

There are a number of delightful towns and villages to be found along this stretch of coastline, but perhaps the jewel in the crown will surely be the city of Brighton & Hove. This is a destination that is packed to the rafters with exciting attractions, picturesque countryside, superb opportunities for shopping and of course a beach that plays host to a wide range of activities. When you spend time in this lovely city, you might even find that a week or more will not be enough to see and do all you had planned in the lead-up to the holiday. Fitting it all in can be extremely difficult.

There are a number of sporting activities to be found in the city and in the surrounding areas, including football, tennis, golf and rugby. The facilities here are excellent, so if you are spending time in East or West Sussex in the coming months get ready for some fun, not to mention some much-needed exercise. There is an issue that needs to be taken into consideration, however, and it’s one that affects many tourists. Sporting injuries can occur at any time, so it comes as no surprise to hear that Brighton osteopaths tend to be extremely busy during the summer season.

Keeping Sussex osteopaths busy all year round

The medical specialists in the region are likely to have a heavy workload throughout the year, and in many cases the warmer months are particularly hectic. The influx of tourists to the area means there are far more instances of people needing help, especially after a sporting injury flares up or perhaps an accidental fall occurs. It comes as a great comfort to visitors to know that Sussex osteopaths are always on hand to provide the treatment that is needed in order for the patient to make what we all hope will be a speedy recovery.

There have been many occasions in the past when a seemingly perfect holiday in the south of England is marred by an injury, whether it caused by sporting activity or anything else. It seems such a shame when this happens, but it has to be said that Brighton osteopaths will know how to deal with such situations with sympathy and understanding. The main thing is for the patient to know that the injury can be treated and that a recovery is already under way. Sussex osteopaths know the importance of stressing this fact.

One of the more sedentary of sports is golf, yet it is one that also induces a great many injuries. Broken ankles and dislocated wrists are not exactly common, but they are not unheard of either. In many cases golfers will suffer an injury when they are walking along and fail to see a rabbit hole in the ground in front of them. It may seem like a simple injury to avoid, but in truth the player is often deep in conversation with a fellow golfer, and this tends to lessen their powers of concentration for a minute or two.

A number of Brighton osteopaths have had to deal with injuries that have been sustained on the local beaches. There is a great deal of fun to be had on the beach, of course, especially during the busy summer period, but there are times when a sudden trip can cause serious damage to ligaments in both the legs and the arms. Patients of all ages and from all walks of life have felt the need for attention from Sussex osteopaths in the past, and there is every reason to assume that this steady stream of patients will continue for many months and years to come.

Brighton Osteopaths - The Top 5 Treated Conditions

brighton osteopaths
Osteopaths in Brighton see a wide range of conditions, but there are some that are more common, most people have heard of them, but do you really know what they are? What are their symptoms, causes and treatment? Here, we have the top five most common conditions treated by osteopaths.

Frozen Shoulder

Frozen shoulder, properly known as adhesive capsulitis or shoulder contracture, is a painful condition that restricts the movement of the shoulder.

The condition is caused when the tissue around the shoulder becomes inflamed and thickened. Frozen Shoulder can be treated by Osteopaths in Brighton, who will stretch and loosen the muscles, relieving pain and inflammation. In the meantime, anti-inflammatory painkillers such as Ibuprofen can help.

Runners Knee

Runner’s Knee is a condition that, as the name suggests, affects runners who perform activities which include a lot of knee bending.
The pain is located around the kneecap. Sometimes Runner’s Knee can require surgery but most of the time rest, painkillers and elevating, compressing and icing the knee can provide relief.

Repetitive Strain Injury

Repetitive strain injury (RSI), also called ‘work-related limb disorder’ causes pain in the muscles, nerves and tendons which are used when performing a particular activity repeatedly or for long periods of time.
Affecting 1 in 50 workers in the UK, RSI usually affects the forearm, wrists, hands, elbow, back and shoulders and is mainly attributed to working with computers or other repetitive manual work.
Taking breaks from repetitive manual activity is the best way to prevent and help RSI. Massage and light exercise such as swimming can also be of benefit.

Sciatica

Sciatica is pain caused by irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve which runs from the back of your pelvis, along your buttocks and down both legs, finishing at each foot.

To prevent sciatica, improve your posture, lift heavy objects properly and always stretch before exercise. Sciatica is normally treated with painkillers and rest but a number of osteopaths in Brighton can recommend a good exercise programme to help with the pain of sciatica.

Arthritis

Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis and affects an estimated 8.5 million people in the UK. In Osteoarthritis, the bone cartilage begins to waste away which then results in friction in the bones which can be very painful.
